I am Juan Ramos, a composer and lyricist with over 20 years of experience in music. I work on commissioned projects as well as on my own ventures, always seeking new ways to express myself through music. In 2005, I released my first discographic work, "Ensonación," primarily instrumental. In 2007, I composed the soundtrack for the animated short film "De la vista nace el amor" by Mexican director Miguel Anaya, which won the Ariel Award for best animated short. In 2008, I released my second discographic work, "El mar se agita," with vocalist Carolina Sospedra, through my independent rock project Mei Ming. During that year and the following four, I toured performing live songs from my albums and digital releases with various bands and singers.
In addition to my personal projects, I have worked as a composer for numerous Spanish and Latin American audiovisual productions, some of which have been awarded at international festivals. I have also composed music for video games, radio programs, corporations, theater, and other productions.
Since 2011, I have been creating custom songs through the project "Compositions for You," and since 2017, I have been composing licensable library music of various genres and styles for the audiovisual sector through "The Marvellous Tunes Factory." In recent years, I have also worked for different singers, composing music for their discographies, and for DJs, producing electronic music in various genres.
Under the pseudonym "Jan Poe," since 2019, I have been setting music to poems by past poets such as Rosalía de Castro, Carolina Coronado, Juana Borrero, Lewis Carroll, Emily Dickinson, and Emily Brontë, among many others, with the goal of publishing thematic albums for each of them. Some of the albums published to date include: "Juana Borrero: The Passion of Dreaming," "My Wild Nights with Emily Dickinson," "Rosalía de Castro," and "The Slave's Complaint," which are musical settings of poems by the enslaved poet George Moses Horton.
In 2021, I started a new personal project with singer Carol Sospedra under the name "El Cancionero de Ana," releasing the EP "El sentido de la vida" (The Meaning of Life).
Currently, in addition to continuing many of the previous projects, I am also working on an experimental project called "The Machine in the Botanical Garden," in which I combine electronic music machines and sequencers with traditional classical formations, such as string quartets, wind quintets, etc., for which I compose music with classical syntax. With this project, I aim to explore new ways of merging classical and electronic music to create something completely new.
In addition to my work as a composer, I am also an educator and have worked in various music schools. I have directed different instrumental and choral formations and am always looking for new ways to share my knowledge and experience with other musicians.
In summary, my music is a blend of my influences and personal experiences, reflecting my creativity and my view of the world. I love working on projects of all kinds and in different styles, and am always seeking new challenges and opportunities. I hope you enjoy my music and find something that inspires you and connects you with my stories and songs.
